The value of education

by :

I have just started my placement as an English Language Assistant in the Parisian suburbs. I was struck by how rich a city Paris really is; the architecture of the buildings and the large amount of luxurious monuments, such as the ‘L’arc de Triomphe’ and ‘Notre Dame’ completely embody the city’s rich reputation. I was also very surprised at how different the suburbs are; in the UK, traditionally, the suburbs are the richest part of a city but here, it is the complete opposite.

The schools that I teach in are located just outside of Paris and are not as wealthy as the ones found in the centre of the city. However, the pupils that I teach are so eager to learn my language. I found this a little different to the UK; I always enjoyed my language lessons at school but I cannot say that I had the same enthusiasm as these pupils.

For my first lesson I brought in some postcards and souvenirs to show my pupils what my hometown is like in the UK. They were so excited by my postcard of my town’s castle and my souvenir of the Welsh dragon. For us in the UK, a postcard of a castle is not necessarily the most exciting thing but, for these pupils it represented real-life magic and mystery. I realised that in their suburb there are no castles or famous monuments, all those things belong in Paris.

One of the teachers told me that despite the fact that these children live four kilometres from Paris, some of them have never been there throughout their entire lives. I represented a chance for them to discover another world.

I never realised, until my placement in France, just how valuable education really is. For these children it represents an opportunity to do something different; it represents hope for their futures and that is priceless.

I was truly inspired by the pupils in my first lessons; their enthusiasm to learn English made me feel very valuable. During my time in France, I really hope that I can inspire these pupils in the same way that they have inspired me. I hope that I can add to their knowledge of English and help encourage their enthusiasm.

How valuable is education to you?

From my perspective, education provides us opportunity to expand our knowledge and improve our academic ability to discover new rules and facts. More importantly, it helps us learn how the world works and how we should be accustomed to the society. Therefore the education plays an important role in our lives, which cannot be substituted.

Hope someone can reply me and check if there are errors!

I wanted to thank all of you for touching, moving comments and inspirational sentences. It almost made me cry because of all those beautiful emotions. It gave me power to change the world.
But I – as well, wanted to share with you my marvellous way though understanding the point of education and I sincerely hope that it will inspire all of you.
Education is a lovely process of learning how our world works. It gives opportunity to understand people and see how beautiful life really is. Educated people are never filled with hate. They embrace all those warm moments of existence, believing that as a people we are all one unity. Litterateurs are true personification of all values that we are so willingly trying to pursue in our modern society of loving people. Of people who understand the world.
Thank you.

I think the teacher is very lucky to get eager chidren in class. The will to learn amongst pupils is various. Some generally like learning, but some don't care about it. Children in bigger cities are praised by their parents even if they get bad marks and they are stuck on hard tasks. Children living in the countryside on the other hand tend to study harder to get the chance to move to bigger city and get highly paid job.

For me, education is something which broadens my mind. Thanks to it I can understand more people and become open-minded to others and to the wolrd. It makes me much more powerful person and gives me confidence. It makes my future less scary and prepares me for my life. Also, it helps me find a dream job.

I believe that the sole road leading to prosperity and real success gets through a right eduational system. Nevertheless it seems that education in my country is the last of the governmantel priorities and isn't getting a minimum of concern by the authorities . It happens that any promoting project gets rejected by them and the elites are not only feeling neglected and deprived from the deserved praise but also facing more and more difficultes through out the path to their educational ascensions ...

First, I'd like to tell I completely agree with you, Harabeli. You made some really good points, which I share too.
I think education is really important, and there is no thing one educated and intelligent person with strong will can't do. Education provides us with knowledge and informations, and is there anything more valuable? If we know and if we can use our knowledge, we can really change something, we can improve our society, we can make this world a better place. All other qualities're not eternal-beauty, youth, all that pass with years, but education and intelligence last forever. None can take it from us, and I think we should appreciate the importance of education more. As Harabeli said, people didn't appreciate its importance in the all parts of world. We should work on spreading of education and I find that the key to the better future is in the arms of youth, in their education. We should give our best and try to gain as much knowledge as possible, because it always pays off. Maybe we can't notice that immediately, but with time, we'll see how we've influenced our society in a good way, and it'll motivate us. When I think of poor children in the world who lack education because of money, and when I compare their situation with some rich and lazy people around the world, who doesn't know to profit from their money, I really feel discouraged. If we knew how much we can do, we'd change something. In conclusion, education is really important for me and have promised myself a long time ago that I'll give my best in order to get a good education and give my own contribution to this world, and that I'll try to influence youngsters in my surroundings to realise how powerful we actually are. Malala Youzufazai is one of the persons I admire the most, and I think we all can learn so much from her experience.

"Education is the most powerful weapon that we can use to change the world" said Nelson Mandela. It's one of my favourite quotes.

Education is very important to me. I think that it can make the world a better place. Education is not the same in different places. For example, in my country it's not so appriciated. If you're educated, most of the people will consider you a nerd, a geek, a fool and things like that. I really hate it. We should think about the future and the difference that we can make in the world that we live in. It's changing every day, too fast and we should pay more attention to the education if we want to follow it.
