I want to agree with Demy. There are so many historic places in Ukraine. I`m from Poltava. There was famous Battle of Poltava in 1709 between Russian and Swedish. So there is the Poltava battle field and museum of Poltava battle. Many wonderful churches like Monastery of the Exaltation of the Cross, monuments(The monument of Glory) are here. The symbol of our town is dumpling(pampushka). We also have a monument for it.

Wow, I've never seen a monument to a dumpling before. They must be a traditional and important food in your town. I wonder what the monument looks like, and I'd like to try those dumplings, too! To 'taste' the history!

Thank you Hanna and Demy for kicking off our discussion in such a wonderful way. I wonder who's going to be the next to teach us about their country's historic buildings!

Hi Jonathan!!!Thanks for answer!
Yes,I have been in every this place. It is very wonderful! It is all situated in Kiev. What about another cities? Ukraine has really many ancient places to visit. Many beautiful places I see in Odessa,Kharkiv,Donetsk,Lviv and other cities. But the most of all are in Kiev. I can write about all Ukrainian ancient places, but it will take more than 10 pages)) Ukraine is really very beautiful! I saw a lot of famous European cities and Kiev can quite be beautiful around them! And in fact I heard, that Ukrainian language is second in the world about melodic. So if you like historic buildings I wish you to came in our country and see all this places by your eyes! All Ukrainian people wait you in Ukraine!!)
And can I ask you? Where do you live Jonathan? Is it United Kingdom?

Hi Demy! Thanks for your warm invitation! And well done for being so knowledgeable about history! Of all the places you mentioned, I'd most like to see the Golden Gate. I like castles and learning about what happened there in the past.

I am from the UK so let me tell you about my favourite historic building there. It's called the Tower of London but despite the name it's not just a tower but a whole castle. It's almost 1000 years old. There are lots of stories about the Tower, but my favourite is that the guards keep lots of ravens there because a legend says that if the ravens ever leave the Tower, then the Tower will fall. One last thing: in the winter time you can do a fun sport there in the (freezing cold) open air. Can you guess what it is? Have a look at this Word on the Street video! (The video's quite funny, too, by the way.)

To anyone: which historic buildings would you like to visit? And, can you tell us about a historic building in your country? Looking forward to reading your comments! :-D

Hello,everybody!!!
Ukraine has many historic places. For example:

Hagia Sophia (St. Sophia Cathedral) was built in XI century in the city center on the orders of Prince Yaroslav the Wise. At the turn of the XVII-XVIII centuries was apparently rebuilt in the Ukrainian Baroque style. Inside the cathedral, numerous ancient frescoes and mosaics, including the famous mosaic of Virgin Orans.
3)Kiev-Pechersk Lavra
Monastery was founded in the 11th century by monks Sts Anthony and Theodosius as underground churches. Originally it was just a monastery, but in the mid-12th century, was named by the Lavra Lavra is officially the title was given to him in 1688.
4)Bessarabia Square
The main street of Kiev - Khreschatyk - ends Bessarabia Square, which is the central structure of the market hall.
And many others places!!!

Hi Demy! Sounds very interesting. I love historic buildings. It's amazing to think how many things have happened there in the past. Are they all in Kiev? Have you been to them all?
