Do you agree with the saying that a woman's work is never done? Levi Tafari does, and he wrote this poem to tell the world about his very special mum.

The First Woman in my Life

by Levi Tafari

A woman's work is never done
If you don't believe me ask my mum
She worked her fingers to the bone
To provide us with a decent home
If she lived in Ancient Rome
She could of built that city on her own
She cooks, she cleans
She does everything
She irons decorates and does the shopping
She chastised us when we were rude
But never sent us to bed with out food
Everyday she would change our clothes
If we had colds she would wipe our nose
Or if we went to mum with a problem
Mum would always help us solve them
We didn't want for anything
We got the greatest gift mum's loving
You can have ten aunties and scores of lovers
But remember you only have one mother
I remember when someone pointed a finger
Mum said I was Black, beautiful and I had culture

She always made sure we went to school
Because in this life you can't be a fool
You can see people will ride you like a mule
It was mum who taught me to be cool
So mother there's something I want you to know
I love you mum, I love you so
You taught me to survive in the ghetto
You can have my last ROLO

If it was not for you then I would not exist
So here it comes for you a kiss
Yes you was the first woman in my life
But one day I will take a wife
Then hopefully she'll become a mum
A woman's work is never done.

Hi Youssod Z,
In the ordering exercise the instructions say to put the lines from the last part of the poem in order. So, just look at the final verse of the poem. Ok? I hope that helps.
Best wishes, Jo (LearnEnglish Teens Team)

It's a beautiful poem, very sensitive. I like writing, especially short stories. I was wondering if there could be any possibility for members of the site to participate in this section, in writing? I'd like to write for this site and I saw that some other members would like too, and it would be very creative and interesting. I really hope us to have this opportunity:).

Hi something nice,
Yes - we know that a lot of our users would like to write more than just comments. We are working on some new sections that will give you the chance to write more and share your poems and stories. We have lots of new sections that we are working on, so I can't say exactly when this will appear on the site.
All the best, Jo (LearnEnglish Teens Team)

I think that being a mother is the biggest privilege God gave to women. It's a chance and I think there is no any women or girl who wouldn't like to have this role some day. I also find that bringing up a child requires a lot of effort and patience, but it's wonderful to spend your days next to those creatures, who are made from you. Their happiness becomes yours, and their smile means a world to you. I am not a mother, of course, but I find that any mother would give life for her child and mothers will always have an especial place in the world's hierarchy.
