Insomnia

I just could not fall asleep the other night. I just didn’t feel sleepy. I can't explain why, but it was really annoying.

I got very bored lying in bed, so I decided to read a book – I thought this would help me get to sleep. But even when I finished reading, I still didn’t feel tired. So I listened to some peaceful music. That didn’t work, either. I have heard people say if you have a warm drink before bedtime it will help you drift off to sleep. So, I went downstairs and made myself a cup of tea. I had to be really quiet, because I didn’t want to wake up my family. After my tea, I got back into bed. Still, I couldn’t sleep. I was getting very frustrated by this point!

It felt strange to be awake while everyone else was asleep. The world seemed so quiet, in fact, it was a little bit spooky. When you go to sleep, it feels like one day ends and another begins. But if you stay up late, you realise that day and night are just a gentle transition, a cycle which has no end and no beginning. At 4am, I noticed a faint light coming through my curtains - the sun had started to rise!

Normally, I’m a very heavy sleeper and I would never be awake at this time in the morning. So on this occasion I considered myself lucky to see a beautiful sunrise. As the sun came up in the east, the birds started to sing their morning songs. I knew I needed to get some rest, but it seemed the harder I tried to force myself asleep, the more difficult it was.

Eventually, I just let my mind go free. I stopped forcing myself to sleep. I listened to the birdsong … and the next thing I knew it was 11am! I was happy that I had managed to get some sleep! I have never struggled with sleeping before, so this was my first experience of insomnia. Fortunately, I have been sleeping well since then.

Luckily enough, I have little occasion to be bothered by insomnia and actually I sleep too much, which sometimes makes me think if I'm okay?!!
When I wake up, I feel every day is a new day...!

Sometimes I can't fall asleep and I hate this condition. In this case hothing can help me, so I used to read books, watch movies, chat with my friends, who don't sleep too, and so on when I experience insomnia. It's such a very interesting fact: you are awaken when you want sleep and can't help sleeping when you need to finish more important things.))

I usually unable to sleep at night. Although i tried many way to force my mind in free by listening, closing my eyes, leaving my phone.... but they didn't work. It was so bad when i awake until 3 a.m, that makes me so drowsy for next morning and i can't study anything, my mind is always in tired condition. I thinks, it's really necessary for me to find the way to avoid insomnia, because i need a lot time and a good mood for studying and working, also you?

If I can't sleep, I'll count sheeps. If this doesn't work, I will spend whole night doing my homework or studying online. Don't sleep well the night before makes me feel drowsy in the next morning. Unfortunately, I am a light sleeper, any little noise can wake me up.

Hi Giang!
Wow, you're an admirable hardworking student! In my case, if I can't get my homework right, I will spend whole night sleeping……. :P
I think I'm a very heavy sleeper and without sunlight, it's hard for me to wake up!

If I can't sleep at night I usually grab my lap-top and surf the web, I do some easy exercises or I read. Fortunately I haven't had problems with sleeping because I go to bed when I feel that I'm tired and I can't do anything anymore.
This summer I have't been sleeping good: I wake up very early in the morning for no reason. I am often surprised when I see the time but I can't go back to bed because I know that I won't be able to continue with my sleep. So, this summer I am usually tired because everyone is getting from bed at 1 pm and I'm waking up at 9:30 am.

It's good to hear your tips for getting a good sleep: counting backwards, massage, and hot milk. You might be right, Elsa007, perhaps tea does keep you awake! But in England we drink tea at any time of the day :D Perhaps I should try hot chocolate next time (I don't like the tase milk!)

Sorry Blake, I made a mistake. There's caffeine in chocolate but it doesn't contain a lot.ツ A cup of hot milk with some honey will also promote sleepiness!

When I don't feel like sleeping I start reverse counting from 100-1 and it really works.I fall asleep when I reach near 60.

Aww... Counting never works for me. Because I'm not patient enough. While I force myself to sleep it's like a lot of things come to my mind. I keep thinking and thinking, like a mess. It's annoying, I hate insomnia.

I rarely experience insomnia, but whenever I can't fall asleep (once or twice a year), I've decided to have a cup of hot milk and massage my neck and legs. That definitely works! ツ
By the way, if my understanding is not wrong, I think tea works for awakening! So I don't usually drink tea at night...!! ツ

Some of my friends drank coffee the at the time they preparing for the exam. They don't want to fall asleep and have more time to study. Sometime we struggle with insomnia but sometime we have trouble with keep ourselves awake. That's funny.
