If you had told me two years ago that I would be moving to a different country for a year, I probably would have laughed in your face. I was the least confident 17-year-old you could possibly meet and I would never have dreamt of leaving home for a year. I couldn’t even go into a fish and chip shop and order food by myself.

But then I started university, and I was totally dreading it. I had to become completely independent, I had to try and fit in with new people and in a totally new environment. Okay, I wasn’t totally dreading it; I was terrified!

Luckily enough, I made it through my first two years of university, but now the real adventure begins … my year abroad. I love Spain and I have always thought both the language and the country were beautiful, but going to live there, on my own, for close to a year? Am I really ready for that? The real answer is I’m not sure and I don’t know if I will ever be ready. However, university has helped make me a different person. I’m not the unconfident girl that I was two years ago. Now I am 20 and looking forward to starting a new chapter of my life in a place that I love.

Being away from home will be hard but living in Spain will be like living a dream. The weather is (usually) amazing and the food is incredible. I love the Spanish people; their attitude to life is phenomenal. I wish people could live with their attitude back home. I cannot wait to fully immerse myself into Spanish life - a siesta every afternoon and paella for dinner? Yes please!

I know that life will seem hard for the next year, but I am looking forward to the challenge. I can’t wait to meet new people and try new things. Life is all about living, and when given an opportunity as amazing as a year abroad, I would have been stupid to turn it down. Hopefully things will run as smoothly as I’d like them to. Fingers crossed!

Four months later….
Do I have a lot of confidence…..?!
Well, not much but a little by little for certain, I believe!

Thank you BFF, hadia!

When I am down and, oh, my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up to more than I can be.

BFF, Elsa:)

Do repeated mistakes shatter my self-confidence or develop my self-confidence? Hmm. It's our choice...! :)

You should do whatever makes you happy. I'm sure people who care about you will only be happy that you are doing something you enjoy :)

I think so, But sometimes there are these particular people whom you prepare on hand to speak to, words and all, and when you see them you forget everything and get the whole thing screwed up. maybe its just emotion and love, but i do guess that also sums up to lack of self confidence.

Exactly! you're absolutely right Silvermist! this happens with me too......I usually prepare things to say in front of my teachers or the people who I'm inspired with but whenever I have face to face meeting with them......believe me! I forget the real words...............but still I usually get through this situation wisely and manage by saying new words which I haven't think of to say about! Hm........ emotion+love=lack of self confidence! :)))) Good illustration Can it be that Love + Emotion =shyness???

Aha….! Exactly!! :)I think the more we admire someone emotionally, the more our self confidence lacks…, then language disappear……wordless shame! That's me! (ha ha ha!)

No, no not you only but even me! I admired my mathematics' and physics' Sir a lot when I was in school ( now I'm in college) He was so superb in teaching!!!!! But whenever we talked about something like my studies or about other activities in school I always answered in broken words or you can say I always lost my self confidence...........I always answered in this way..........." Ah......Actually......sir....I.....I......." and similarly I spoke other statements...! Hm...even now when I went to my school to meet my teachers and Sirs, I prepared things to speak in front of them....especially him,.......and then when he appeared before me I lost my language and just started speaking words my self!!!!!!! That was wordless shame! ha ha ha! well, this also happened with me while talking to my English Mam in school...........I also admired her too much and thus this situation was there as well................hahaha ....... I liked that word Wordless Shame :3

Hi Hadia!
Phew..........It's really embarrassing when one can't find words to express in front of his/her near and dear ones! Well.........I've also an experience to share :) I hope you wouldn't mind if I'll tell it to you........ :D
I also admired my Biology teacher! He was very impressive ;))) His lecture delivering style was soooooooo nice that everything which he used to teach us; was remembered to me at the spot :)) I really admired him :)) I don't but my class mates always said me that I was among his favourite students ................I was always very happy listening these words from them.........But whenever he would meet me to inquire about my studies......Gosh!!!! I just used to lost my mind and couldn't utter a word .......That was really embarrassing........The same situation that you mentioned above in your comment, ..........." Ah......Actually......sir....I.....I......." and similarly I spoke other statements...! " Well, It seems that you're a confident girl :)))) ( Unlike me , Because I'm shy )
You're very impressive Hadia! I've read your comments on this site and they are just awesome!
Truly, I just loved reading them :)))
One thing I've noticed that many people here, admire you......Do you know the reason???? Because you're very friendly and lovely! You encourage them too much :))) You write positive comments :))) Can we be friends ??? If you don't mind! I want an encouraging friend like you ( just like Elsa007 has! I've noticed that you two are quite good friends) :D
I hope you'll like my comment!

Hi Grace and Hadia!
Glad to be good friends!! I've just enjoyed your comments and I utterly agree with Grace! As I'm much impressed by both of your lovely experiences, do you mind my sharing my experience as well? :))
Well…, I think I'm shy,too, but I had a slight different experience from you two….
Our geography teacher was very popular among girls, and I admired him like others. One day, I went to ask him feeling thrillingly about some questions as for the coming exam. I expected to get clear answers which he was willing to give us in the lesson, but suddenly he looked absent-minded to my questions and I thought I'd asked something wrong with him, although he usually gave careful instructions to others' questions. I felt I was ignored and was't encouraged. But I didn't take it seriously and time has passed.
And now, your experiences have rung the bell!!

Hi Elsa!
I'm glad that you agree with me and Thanks for reading my comment :))
Well, your experience was bad but no worries :)) I think Hadia said right......may be he would be having a tangled issue with him due to some personal problems??.......And then you came and asked the questions ...........And he wouldn't be in a condition to tell it to you ..............or may be he couldn't explain it to you well????.....................Leave it.........!! Just Smile and be happy.....As.....You may know that
"Worries create Wrinkles ;
But Smile creates a Dimple :))))))
Well, I'm very envious of your's and hadia's friendship :))))
She admires you a lot and I've just guessed it while reading her comment in which she mentioned some qualities of yours.............Sisters..... WOOw! I'm feeling lovely :)))
Lots of love ☆

Hi Grace!
Thank you for your kind reply!! I'm glad to have find great friendship! You're so lovely as well as Hadia! Hmm… as you suggest, adults seem to be difficult, aren't they??
Anyway, I'd liked to bear in mind your nice advice '"Worries create Winkles"!! I't's definitely a call to action!
You're rally good at giving encouragement to me…although I sometimes think myself nothing…….(I'm not a pessimist though I just think like that)
Let's be happy hadn-in-hand :)))

Hi Elsa!
Aww! That was really bad! I think that there must be something else of which he was thinking in his mind, and then suddenly you came and he couldn't get connected to your questions at all :)) Well, I liked reading your experience...........But don't feel discouraged and ignored!! May be you would be among his best students, who knows???
I also felt this situation sometimes and I always consider myself inferior!......Never mind that!
Your this experience made me remember my sad moments..............Well, just flush them out forever from your mind!!! And this will make you feel relaxed! ( as I've been doing, whenever I got sad on any moment in my life)
I hope you'll be happy now :)))

Thank you for the kind and interesting comment as usual! You're really smart and right! You never know… I see..., well...I remember him often being off in his own world….!!
But I think that coolness caught my interest actually. Well, thanks to your encouragement, I think I don't have to flush it out! I'm happy now :))))

I have much self-confidence but It's natural that you feel dreading whenever you take a start in any institute...........But it was never in my case! I have always been confident either at the start of my educational career in any institute or at the end! ( all of my friends say me this! But I'm sorry if I sound patronizing) I've always had a smiling face and a lot of experiences packed up in my bag. I have a quality that I make good friends quickly and that's just because that even on my very first day at any place I talk and greet people friendly and confidently................I never hesitate in talking to others......I think that if we admire others who are our mates we should have conservation with them and be friends! It gives rise to a good society! I love this thing and like interacting with others.........It also make us know new things! I think that with the passage of time our confidence increases and we feel more activeness in ourselves and our mental capability is also develop with the people surrounding us! Well, as far as I have observed I think it's a natural thing that every person feels dreading before the start....but as you get started you manage!

I wish I could be more like you. I think I'm feeling a lot happier in myself after completing my first two weeks. As it turns out, I had nothing to worry about. Some things were difficult at first and I still miss my family and close friends, but things will get easier with time :)

Hm....Jealousy is something really bad! It can effect other people physically and emotionally!
I'm also scared to face other's jealousy and frustration! I guess I'm like poor fragile butterfly!! I wish I'd stay away from people of such attitude! I can't guess why people are jealous of others' achievements....They should be happy and try to get their own by themselves!.......What do you think ken?? Are you afraid of such people too??
