Czeching out Prague!

Last week I visited Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, for the first time. As it was my first time there I didn’t know what to expect but I was amazed at what a beautiful city it is, with so much to see and do. I spent three days wandering the pretty streets and exploring the main tourist sights with friends, so here is some information about the places I visited.

Prague Castle
This was my favourite place because the architecture was beautiful and the streets were very traditional. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world – It is the same size as roughly 7 football pitches!  Throughout history many Kings and Emperors have lived there and today it is the official residence of the President of the Czech Republic.  On the site you can also visit St Vitus Cathedral, a gothic Cathedral with beautiful stained glass windows.

Charles Bridge
The Charles Bridge is a famous bridge that crosses the Vltava River. It was built between the 14th and 15th centuries and connects Prague Castle with the Old Town. Today you can walk across it and find many souvenir stalls or have your caricature drawn. There are many statues on the bridge and some people think that if you touch the statue of St John of Nepomuk you will receive good luck and return to Prague soon.

The Lennon Wall
The Lennon Wall is a wall covered in graffiti and pictures inspired by John Lennon and the Beatles. People have been drawing on the wall since the 1980s and people continue to do so today. When I visited the wall there were graffiti artists painting messages of hope and peace and I even added my own message to the wall!

I really enjoyed my time in Prague and would like to return one day.  Travelling is one of my favourite hobbies because when you visit a new city there is so much interesting history and culture to learn about. I hope to visit many other famous cities in the future, such as Berlin, Barcelona and Krakow. What cities do you recommend?

I am from the Czech republic and I have to admit I hate it when people are only interested in the capitals of countries. That's because children from Prague are mostly spoiled and the only town of the CR they know is Prague, or maybe Brno. I must recommend you to visit Třebíč, that's my town. It is beautiful, it's not very big, but we have 2 UNESCO sights.
