Based on what I've learned from elementary school, Pharmacists are the ones who sell and give medicines. and CHEMISTS are the ones who formulate the medicines.

I'm now confused. Will you please enlighten me? thanks

Hi Ringorshine,

Good question! In British English, you can say either a chemist, or a pharmacist, for someone who is qualified to prepare and sell medicines but in American English, you would say a pharmacist.
In British English, a chemist is also someone who studies chemistry or does work which is connected to chemical research.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes and good luck with your studies.

I hate to go to a hospital. I don‘t like to smell medicine, because it makes me to be sick. I didn‘t break a bone, but I had 20 injections when I was a baby. When I was eight or nine years old, I had an injection too.

I just keep wondering which prepositions come after "sick" sick of, to, with, in, for Can you help me? What are their meanings? Tysm

Submitted by editor_rachael on Sat, 05/25/2019 - 15:47

Hi Tysm,

Good question! Yes, it's important to be aware that some words can go with different prepositions to give different meanings. A good dictionary can usually tell you what they mean. In the case of sick, here are a few examples:

  • I'm sick with the flu. This means I'm ill. I've got the flu.
  • I feel sick from eating too many sweets. This means eating too many sweets made me feel ill.
  • I'm sick of cleaning the house. This means I've cleaned the house a lot and I don't want to do it anymore.

Hope that helps!
